Please tell us about yourself

My name is Isaac Sixtus Chizaram popularly known as Zara. I’m a Nigerian. I’m a visual & Brand designer. I’m enthusiastic about contributing to FOSS & solving brand communication problems.

What are you working on right now?

I’m working on brand identity for the Python Package Installer (pip install).

What is most interesting about that?

Flexibility, I learnt a lot about the Python community while I was making research.

How did you first discover FOSS?

I attended an Open Source Festival last year, learnt a lot from the speakers as they gave me enlightenment on how FOSS works & how I can contribute.

What prompted you to start contributing to FOSS?

I was inspired by Samson Goddy’s Open Source Evangelism last two years & I later got deep insight after I attended OSCAFEST in 2020. For FOSS, I saw some inconsistencies in the design aspect especially the brand Identities of some of these. I had to sign up on Open Source Design so that I can help contribute when I see any job openings.

Why should others get involved with FOSS?

FOSS solves our every day problems. It would be great if more contributors join hands in making it sustainable & better for use.

How should they get started?

  • Read articles
  • Join OS communities
  • Mentorship
  • Ask Questions

What difficulties and limitations do you see with FOSS?

  • Less hands on deck
  • Lack of inclusion & accessibility

How can they be solved?

Building with a sustainable mindset.

Where do you see difficulties in contributing?

  • Research
  • User Interface and Experience Design

What does a perfect day off look like?

  • Hiking
  • Spending time with family at the waterfront

Do you want to tell us something else we didn’t ask?

I speak Chinese.
